This morning we said a regretful goodbye to Edinburgh and took the train back to London.
Before I start writing about London, this would be a good time to post a few pictures of the wonderful place we stayed in Edinburgh. I already posted one shot of the exterior from the day we arrived (July 6) but now I'll add a few of the interior. I only thought to take these when we were all packed up to go, so excuse the suitcase clutter.
The kitchen end of the big main room:
That very compact kitchen includes a small fridge, dishwasher, range (they call it a "hood" in Scotland) and a combination microwave+convection oven.
More of the big room:
You can see what a nice big airy room it is. The large bedroom and bathroom are off the door to the right.
And even though the light was tricky to get for this last picture, you can see how the skylight lit up the room:
And here is the pair of items we needed to get in and out of the Pavillion:
Isn't that a fun combination? An extremely old-fashioned key for the Pavillion together with a very modern device to get through the garage into the back yard!
We loved staying in the Pavillion. In fact, we've agreed that if (no, when!) we visit Edinburgh again we'd be willing to adjust our dates to make sure the Pavillion was available. Besides all of it's charm, it's location is perfect: on a main road with great bus service and just a short ride to the Royal
Mile, but quiet because of being in the back yard away from the street. No, I'm not getting a commission for recommending it so highly; it just deserves it! It's somewhere on homeaway.uk, but the Internet in my current hotel room isn't letting me find it at the moment. But if you happen to be interested send me a note when I'm home and I'll run down the exact link.
One last picture from Edinburgh, one of the many quotes from Scottish authors on display inside the train station:
I certainly hope the same doesn't apply to bloggers!
Once in London, the only sightseeing we had time for was a walk in Kensington Park near our hotel. We walked around the "round pond"
and admired all the different kinds of birds around and in it:
It's a beautiful place because of the landscape and birds and it also has a really happy, friendly feeling about it, with many families and collections of friends enjoying it.
